In the StudyCheck university ranking, UBT once again impresses and is among the most popular universities in Germany in 2026. With top ratings and a high recommendation rate, it ranks 7th among all universities.
In the Times Higher Education (THE) Subject Ranking, Bayreuth's engineering sciences are ranked worldwide in the 251–300 group, meaning they are among the top 20 % worldwide. In a Germany-wide comparison, Bayreuth's engineering sciences achieve a remarkable 12th place, ranking highest among medium-sized universities. The ranking confirms the high standard of teaching and research at the University of Bayreuth.
In the QS World University Ranking: Europe, the University of Bayreuth ranks 187th out of a total of 958 ranked higher education institutions. In the Faculty Student Ratio category, which measures the ratio of lecturers to students, the University of Bayreuth ranks 105th in Europe and 25th in Germany. The University of Bayreuth also scores highly in terms of sustainability, ranking 153rd in Europe and 21st in Germany.

In the Startup Radar of the Stifterverband, the University of Bayreuth ranks first among medium-sized universities in Germany.
In the Academic Ranking of World Universities (“Shanghai Ranking”), the University of Bayreuth has consolidated its position in the 401-500 ranking group following its rise last year. More than 2,500 universities worldwide were evaluated in this internationally recognized ranking, 1,000 of which — including only 51 German universities — are listed.
2024
The National Academics Panel Study (Nacaps) confirms that the University of Bayreuth offers excellent PhD conditions. The study shows that the majority of PhD candidates choose their university mainly because of a specific supervisor. This is particularly true for PhD candidates at the University of Bayreuth (65 % in 2021 and 63 % in 2023). Satisfaction with supervision (65 % in 2021 and 66 % in 2023) and the services offered to PhD students at the University of Bayreuth is also almost 10 percentage points higher than the national benchmark.
In UniNow's Digital Campus Index, the University of Bayreuth ranks first among all participating universities and eighth among all participating higher education institutions.
2023
The Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Bayreuth has once again been awarded the Gütesiegel of Fakultätentag Maschinenbau und Verfahrenstechnik for the years 2024 – 2026. This confirms the highest quality in studies, teaching, and research at the Faculty of Engineering Science.
In the StudyCheck overall ranking, the University of Bayreuth ranks eighth among the most popular universities in Germany. Ninety-four percent of students would recommend the University of Bayreuth to others. The ranking confirms the high quality of teaching and studies.
In the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Ranking, the University of Bayreuth ranks 59th out of a total of 605 universities. This places it among the top ten percent of young universities worldwide and third in Germany.
In the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking, the University of Bayreuth is listed among the top 25 % in the world. In the “Innovation” category, it is once again among the top ten percent. Among the German universities listed, the University of Bayreuth ranks fourth overall and even takes first place in the “Sustainability” category in a nationwide comparison.
In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking, the University of Bayreuth ranks among the top 15 percent in the field of “research” and among the top 20 percent of universities worldwide in the fields of ‘teaching’ and “industry cooperation”.
In the recognized German CHE Ranking, the University of Bayreuth shines, especially in the field of Business Administration and Engineering. Students rate the support provided by teaching staff with an average of 4.4 stars, which is better than at any other university in Germany. When it comes to the general study situation, only one other higher education institution achieves a rating as good as the University of Bayreuth's 4.4 stars.

In the DFG Funding Atlas, Bayreuth's engineering sciences are ranked 16th in the list of DFG funding amounts based on the number of professors. This makes them one of the strongest research locations in Germany among medium-sized universities.
